Dr Ashraf Khan

CONSULTANT OPHTHALMIC SURGEON

Dr Khan is a Consultant Ophthalmologist working in the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, Edinburgh. He specialises in the treatment of retinal conditions including surgical (macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments) and medical retina, with a particular interest in diabetic retinopathy. Dr Khan also leads on the ophthalmic theatres users group, improving and modernising the equipment used in ophthalmic theatres across the Lothians.

Performing safe cataract surgery is of paramount importance and this is demonstrated by excellent surgical outcomes of 96% of patients achieving a visual acuity of 6/12 or greater (national standard 91%) and a posterior capsular rupture rate of 0.56% (national standard 1.9%). Dr Khan has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at dozens of national and international meetings. His on-going research involves looking at surgical outcomes following retinal detachment and aggressive diabetic retinopathy.
