Mr. Mostafa Alam is a board-certified consultant ophthalmic surgeon with a subspecialist expertise in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery. He provides a comprehensive range of advanced surgical treatments, including routine and complex cataract procedures, as well as vitreoretinal interventions such as macular hole repair, epiretinal membrane peeling, retinal detachment surgery, management of vitreous haemorrhage, and repositioning or exchange of dislocated intraocular lenses. He is proficient in performing surgeries under topical, local, or general anaesthesia, offering bespoke care tailored to each patient’s clinical and personal needs.
Mr. Alam has held key leadership roles in the development of cataract and vitreoretinal services within the NHS, where he contributed significantly to improving surgical outcomes, streamlining service pathways, and enhancing patient safety. His surgical performance consistently exceeds national standards, reflecting a strong commitment to clinical excellence, precision, and innovation in ophthalmic care.
He undertook advanced medical and vitreoretinal fellowships at internationally renowned centres, like Shiley Eye Centre at the University of California, San Diego and Imperial College London. He also holds a Doctorate in Medicine (MD), supported by extensive postgraduate training in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases. His clinical expertise includes the management of diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and wet age-related macular degeneration.
He has authored publications in peer-reviewed journals and regularly contributes to national and international ophthalmic meetings. His dual focus on research and clinical practice ensures that patients benefit from the most current, evidence-based surgical techniques.
